#hNL24 Cardiff with Prof Cathy Adams is FULL!

hanfod.NL is thrilled to announce an incredible opportunity to learn from a true expert in the field of phenomenology. hanfod.NL will facilitate an in-person phenomenology workshop led by our esteemed Ffenomenolegydd Preswyl (Phenomenologist in Residence), Professor Cathy Adams on the 10th May 2024 in Cardiff [10 am.–230 p.m., light lunch included – funded by the Networked Learning Conference Consortium].

Phenomenology is a form of qualitative inquiry that aims to describe the lifeworld as we immediately experience it, prereflectively in the lived now, rather than as we might theorize, conceptualise, or categorize it. Hermeneutic phenomenology further recognizes that our words, concepts, cultural preassumptions and even our tools, continually shape and structure our experiences as we live them. This half-day seminar introduces Max van Manen’s (2014, 2023) practical approach to doing phenomenological inquiry which has been applied in a very broad range of disciplines, from neonatology to pedagogy to computer science. Participants will have the opportunity to explore how lived experience descriptions (LEDs) may be gathered and reflected upon in practice

Professor Adams is a renowned scholar with extensive experience and expertise in phenomenology. Her research investigates digital technology integration across K-12 and post-secondary educational environments, exploring ethical and pedagogical issues involving digital technologies, including AI. Additionally, she delves into K-12 Computing Science curriculum and computational thinking (CT) pedagogy. In her qualitative inquiries of technologies in teaching and learning, Professor Adams employs Max van Manen’s “phenomenology of practice”, postphenomenology, media ecology, and related sociomaterial approaches.

This workshop presents a rare chance to learn directly from one of the foremost minds in the field. Whether you are a student, researcher, or simply have a keen interest in phenomenology, this promises to be an enlightening and enriching experience.
